Save the Drama for the Books: How Teaching Literacy Differently Can Tame Tantrums and Energize Educators”

Education is in a state of crisis. Students have poor literacy skills and teachers are leaving the profession in record numbers due to the high demands to raise test scores, manage behavior, and differentiate instruction. There is a solution. During this keynote, Jennifer Hasser, M.Ed., will present the “why” and “how” behind effective reading instruction and the significant impact it can have. Proficient readers gain self-confidence, enhance their critical thinking abilities, and exhibit fewer disruptive behaviors. Learn how certain instructional methods paired with quality content are more effective when behavioral science is linked to the Science of Reading research. By exploring the “why” and “how,” we reveal the reason effective teaching practices can mitigate behavior issues, foster a positive learning environment, set the stage for student success, and, most importantly, help teachers to love teaching again.

Drawing from her experience as an educator, advocate, and parent of a daughter with dyslexia, the presenter will share solutions that students, parents, and teachers will benefit from. Educators will walk away with an understanding of the positive impact of multisensory teaching methods as well as strategies and activities to manage behavior and reinforce learning.
